Two Hearts is a present-moment song. It does not retell a chapter from the novels. It is Selene speaking from the inside of her own head, after centuries of the displacement, after everything she has lost and everything she has somehow kept. The grief of being chosen is the song's central question.
Why her? When the world has so many other lives it could have spared instead. When grief that big should not land on someone twice, or three times, or as many times as she has had to carry it.
She has never asked Nysera the question out loud. She may never. The song is the only place the question gets asked.
